K92 Mining (KNT.V) continues to build its team, and the company has now announced Chris Muller as its exploration manager. Muller has been working in Papua New Guinea for approximately 10 years and was the principal geologist working on the Wafi-Golpu project (owned by Newcrest Mining (ASX:NCM)), and his addition to the K92 Mining team seems to be very positive as he brings both the experience and the know-how of exploring in the country and dealing with the locals to ensure a win-win situation for all parties involved.
Muller’s appointment is just in time as K92 Mining has started an underground drill program at the Irumafimpa gold deposit, where the first gold-rich ore will be mined. The company’s drill contractor will be working with two drill rigs, of which one will effectively be targeting the Irumafimpa orebody with a specific task to conduct a grade control program to help K92 with keeping its mine plan up to date.
A second drill rig will be drilling the Judd Vein system which is running parallel to the Irumafimpa and Kora deposits. This vein system had already been discovered by Barrick Gold (ABX, ABX.TO) and seems to have a strike length of approximately 2,500 meters. Not only is this a large exploration target, the fact the vein system is located less than 100 meters from the main incline makes this target even more appealing, and we’re looking forward to see the initial assay results from this drill program.
