Kenorland Minerals (KLD.V) has provided an extensive update on its exploration activities on the Frotet gold project in Québec where the joint venture between Kenorland and Sumitomo continues to drill off the high-grade discovery zones.

The assay results from the Winter 2022 drill program are now coming in and Kenorland was able to publish the results of twenty additional holes. A total of 10,880 meters were drilled as part of the Winter 2022 drill program and Kenorland’s exploration update contains the assay results from 8,040 meters of drilling. And Kenorland and Sumitomo obviously aren’t drilling wherever they please, as the methodology applied by the two partners is working well to get a much better understanding of the mineralized areas.

At the R1 trend (where most of the work has been done so far), hole 22RDD130A stepped out 100 meters down dip from a hole drilled in 2021 which encountered 0.33 meters of 30.6 g/t gold, and the new hole was even more impressive: within a 3.85 meter interval containing almost 45 g/t gold there was a higher grade area of 1.2 meters containing 127.8 g/t gold. While the majority of the gold in the wider interval came from the 1.2 meter intercept, the residual grade of the remaining 2.65 meters still was a very respectable 7.4 g/t and would for sure be mined anyway. At R1, the company’s plan was to test the rocks down dip for gold mineralization and to drill-test additional structures directly south of R1.

Drilling at the R2 and R4 trends was mainly designed to expand the strike length and at R4 for instance, the partners intersected 2 meters of 20.43 g/t gold (including 0.7 meters of 46.2 g/t gold indicating the residual 1.3 meters still contained an average grade of 6.55 g/t gold). This hole was drilled 70 meters towards the east from a hole drilled in 2021 which encountered 2.7 meters of 15.87 g/t gold so the strategy of stepping out along strike seems to be working.

Needless to say Kenorland and Sumitomo are very happy with these results and it further confirms the strategy to drill, drill, drill is the right one. The partners have approved a budget to complete an additional 40,000 meters of drilling in two different phases: the summer drill campaign is now in full swing while a winter drill campaign has been scheduled for January-April 2023. The 40,000 meter drill program will almost double the total amount of meters drilled at Frotet in the past two years so it’s safe to say Kenorland and Sumitomo are stepping it up a notch.
